Staying Busy All Winter!

I hope everyone has recovered from a wonderful holiday season and is enjoying a peaceful winter.  While winter is the “slow season” at Lakewood we find plenty to keep us busy. Along with the winter cleaning and “fixing-up”, we participate in many events and tastings in the area. Lakewood also participates in events sponsored by the Seneca Lake Wine Trail hosted at participating Seneca Lake Wine Trail member wineries (including Lakewood Vineyards).

Wine Education Fund

Lakewood Vineyards
Seriously good wine!

We are open 361 days a year
(closed New Years Day, Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas).

Harvest is Here

Though summer is not officially over we started picking last Friday, with a small lot of Niagara, and 15 tons of Leon Millot. Winemaker, Chris, paused for a moment to give me his initial impression of the 2013 vintage, “the grapes look and taste great after a nice growing season.”

He doesn’t have much time to ponder such questions with vineyard sampling, scheduling grape loads and keeping-up with the newly pressed juice.

A new grape press is making that part of the process much more efficient. The cellar crew is hoping there will be fewer late nights with the larger, press and the find tuned set-up in the 1 year old press house.

September is Riesling Launch month in the Finger Lakes. We are encouraging people to try the 2 Rieslings we have available from the 2012 vintage. The 3Generations Riesling is a new release for us, and we bottled some in 1.5L bottles. The 2012 Dry Riesling is also pleasing lots of pallets. It is a bit sweeter than the 3Generations Riesling,
but still quite dry. Both of these 2012 Rieslings will be wonderful choices for Thanksgiving dinner.

Come see us this fall. The tasting room staff is ready to pour you delicious Lakewood selections, and help you find just the right wines for your tastes.

Hope to see you soon,
The Staff at Lakewood Vineyards
